At least eight people were killed and 30 others injured in an explosion that hit a hotel in downtown Havana, Cuba on Friday.

According to the Cuban Presidential Office, the explosion at Hotel Saratoga was triggered by a gas leak.

"Everything indicates that the explosion was caused by an accident," the Cuban Presidential Office said in a tweet.

Amateur photo shared on social media platforms show rubbles spilled onto the street, with buses and cars appearing to have been damaged by the explosion.

Emergency responders are still on site for search and rescue operations.
