South Africa's jet fuel supply has decreased but is stable, according to Airports Company South Africa (ACSA).

ACSA's Chief Executive Officer Mpumi Mpofu made the announcement at a media briefing on Monday, noting that the decrease in supply affects all airports.

The company however allayed fears of a possible disruption of air travel, pointing out that fuel contractual agreements will still be met.

Mpofu also announced that the government was working to resolve the jet fuel shortage at the country's main airport, O.R. Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg.

O.R. Tambo has struggled to secure enough supplies of the commodity due to the destruction of transport infrastructure in Kwa-Zulu Natal province due to the deadly floods that hit the province last month.

Mpofu added on Monday at a news conference that state logistics group Transnet aimed to restore 50 percent of a flood-damaged railway line by June 9.

"We had provided you with information to confirm a consignment of jet fuel by ship which we said would arrive on the 5th of May, we can confirm indeed it has arrived at the Durban port, and today, May 9, is being pumped into the National Petroleum Refineries of South Africa refineries. This will enable that fuel to further provide relief at OR Tambo thereafter," she said.
