Various world leaders and health chiefs are gathered in Switzerland ahead of the commencement of the Seventy-fifth session of the World Health Assembly (WHA), which is set to begin on Sunday in Geneva.

Held under the theme of "Health for Peace, Peace for Health", the seven-day gathering will be the first in-person Health Assembly since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Events will kick off with a high-level segment on Sunday, with speeches from the elected Health Assembly President, Heads of State, special guests, an address by the World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General and the presentation of the Director-General's Health Awards.

The WHA75 comes amid an outbreak of monkeypox.

The WHO said on Friday outbreaks have been reported across 11 countries so far, all of which are atypical as they are occurring in non-endemic countries.

There are about 80 confirmed cases so far, and 50 pending investigations. WHO said more cases are likely to be reported as surveillance expands.

The world is also still fighting to end the COVID-19 pandemic, which has already killed more than 6.2 million people globally.

These are expected to form major part of discussions in Geneva.

The Health Assembly is WHO's highest decision-making body, setting out the Organization's policy and approving its budget.
