About 78,000 pounds (35,380 kilograms) of infant formula arrived in Indianapolis on Sunday, giving hope to American Parents who have endured days of biting shortages across the U.S.

According to AP, the formula was transported by a military plane.

The shipment is the first of several expected to arrive in the country from Europe this week after flights were authorized by the U.S. President Joe Biden.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said on Thursday that a shuttered infant formula factory – one largely responsible for the nationwide shortage – could resume operations as early as next week.

As parents across states struggled to obtain the vital formulas, major pharmacies and retailers such as Target, Walmart, CVS and Walgreens restricted the amount parents could buy, leaving many empty-handed.

According to the AP report citing the White House, 132 pallets of Nestlé Health Science Alfamino Infant and Alfamino Junior formula was to leave Ramstein Air Base in Germany for the U.S. Another 114 pallets of Gerber Good Start Extensive HA formula were expected to arrive in the coming days. Altogether, about 1.5 million 8-ounce bottles of the three formulas, which are hypoallergenic for children with cow's milk protein allergy, are expected to arrive this week.
