German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is scheduled to arrive in South Africa on Tuesday for the final stop of his three-nation tour of Africa.

Scholz began his tour on Sunday with a visit to Senegal, where he met with President Macky Sall, before heading to Niger.

The German Chancellor's visit to South Africa has been hailed as being of great importance due to the two countries' budding relationships.

According to the South African Presidency, Germany is South Africa's second largest trading partner and in tourism, the third largest single source of overseas arrivals.

Germany is also a major investment source and development partner.

Scholz will meet President Cyril Ramaphosa for talks on various issues, including ways to enhance cooperation in areas such as energy and climate change, trade and investment, and responses to COVID-19 and vaccine demand.

The South African Presidency pointed out that the two leaders will also exchange views on Germany's G7 priorities and how these could benefit emerging economies and the African continent in particular.

Ramaphosa and Scholz will also grace the launch of a South African-German consortium that will advance technology research for the production of sustainable aviation fuels.
