KwaZulu-Natal's post-floods infrastructural rebuild will cost more than R25-billion ($1.6 billion), according to South Africa's Ad-Hoc Joint Committee on Flood Disaster Relief and Recovery.
The figure was quoted by the Committee's chairperson, Jomo Nyambi, who was speaking after a visit to the affected areas of the province.
For the second time in two months, KwaZulu-Natal province was hit by destructive floods that destroyed roads, bridges, buildings and other infrastructure.
The first occurrence came in April as the country was pounded by heavy rains. More than 440 people were killed in KwaZulu-Natal and infrastructure destroyed after resultant floods gashed the province.
The areas that were most affected by the latest floods were in the southern part of Durban.
As the province continues its recovery efforts, the South African Weather Service warned of more adverse conditions ahead. Provincial authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant.
