Serena Williams has indicated that she will make a return to tennis at this month's Wimbledon.

The seven-time champion has not played since injuring her leg in the first round of last year's tournament while playing Aliaksandra Sasnovich.

Williams posted a photo of herself on Instagram wearing white trainers and captioned the photo: "SW and SW19. It's a date. 2022, see you there."

According to the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA), Williams will take part in the doubles event at the Rothesay International in Eastbourne, a WTA 500 grass-court event.

The 23-time Grand Slam winner will pair up with world number four Ons Jabeur of Tunisia.

The All England Club also announced on Tuesday that Williams has received a wild card for the singles main draw of Wimbledon.

Williams, who is gunning for a record-equaling 24th Grand Slam, last won a Wimbledon singles title in 2016 when she defeated Angelique Kerber.
