English Premier League team, Arsenal, officially announced the acquisition of Brazilian forward Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City.

The North Londoners struck a deal reportedly worth 55 million U.S. dollars for the 25-year-old who spent five-and-a-half years at Etihad Stadium.

Jesus made 236 appearances for the Cityzens, scoring 95 goals across all competitions and helping them win four Premier League titles, an FA Cup triumph and three Carabao Cup wins.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta hailed the acquisition, noting that he was happy the club managed to bring the Brazilian on board.

"I'm very excited. The club has done a tremendous job to recruit a player of this stature. I know Gabriel personally very well, and we all know him well from his time in the Premier League and being really successful here," said Arteta.

"This is a position that's been on our radar for a long time now and we have managed to get a player that we all wanted, so I’m really happy."

On his part, Technical Director Edu pointed out that Arsenal was attracted by Jesus' quality and consistency.

"Gabriel is a player who we have admired for a long time now. He is 25 years old and an established Brazil international who has consistently demonstrated that he is a player at a very high level. We look forward to seeing him join up with his new teammates ahead of the new season," said Edu.

Jesus will wear the number 9 shirt and is expected to link up with his new teammates soon for pre-season training.
