Alfa Romeo's Zhou Guanyu is keen to get back on the racing track after Sunday's horrific accident that saw his car roll over in a thrilling British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

The 23-year-old collided with Mercedes ace George Russell in the opening lap of the race, with the Chinese star's car flipping upside down, skidding through the gravel in that position and then smashing into the fence.

After minutes of high tension, the driver was pulled out of the vehicle and transferred to a medical center for check-ups before being declared okay.

After the race, he took to social media to confirm his status by posting a picture in high spirits.

On Monday, he took to social media again to express his desire to get back to action.

"I want to thank the marshals and the medical team at Silverstone, they were really fantastic. I'm keener than ever to get back on track, see you guys in Austria!" he wrote.

Earlier, the Chinese driver attributed his survival to the Halo, a wishbone-shaped titanium bar that sits on top of the cockpit of the car and wraps around the driver's head.

He pointed out the progress made over the years to improve the racing cars.

F1 teams are scheduled to assemble in Austria next weekend for the eleventh race of the season.
