Sudan's government has ordered an investigation into deadly tribal clashes in the southern state of Blue Nile. At least 65 people have died and about 150 others injured since the fighting started last week.

The country's Technical Committee of the Security and Defence Council ordered a regional security committee to strengthen measures to prevent further escalation of inter-communal tensions and take the necessary legal measures against individuals accused of stirring up rebellion and inciting acts of violence.

The council also ordered the reinforcement of regional security forces to avert attacks on individuals and private and public property.

Clashes broke out last week between Hausa and Birta ethnic groups broke out last week over the killing of a farmer and continued until Saturday, according to local authorities.

The clashes prompted the local government to impose a night-time curfew and ban gatherings in two provincial cities, Rosiris and Damazin.
