At least seven people were killed in another shooting incident in South Africa on Saturday night after gunmen stormed a tuck shop in Savannah Park in Mariannhill, KwaZulu-Natal.

According to local reports, the gunmen emerged from the dark and opened fire indiscriminately at a group of people standing near the tuck shop.

According to the South African Police Service, the victims were aged between 30 and 65 years old.

"Initial investigations revealed that three of the deceased were the tuck shop owner as well as his two sons and one of the deceased’s who was waiting at the tuck shop to see a traditional healer, might have been the actual target of the hit," SAPS said in a statement.

Reported incidents of gun attacks in South Africa have increased in recent weeks, sparking nationwide outrage.

The latest gun attack comes on the back of multiple shootings that left more than 30 people dead this month.

After Saturday's attack, KwaZulu-Natal police chief, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, said the police would "do everything" to apprehend the attackers.

"This incident once again demonstrates our concern that firearms are contributing to the high levels of crime in the province and we are advocating for stricter regulations regarding the management of legal firearms as many of them end up being used by criminals. We will do everything within our control to bring these killers to book," said Lieutenant General Mkhwanazi.
