At least three people have been confirmed dead following massive flooding in Mbale city in eastern Uganda.

According to local Daily Monitor news outlet, the city experienced heavy rainfall on Saturday night, causing river Namatala and river Nashibiso to break their banks.

The resultant floods ravaged various parts of the city, destroying buildings, property and rendering homes inhabitable.

At the time of publishing this report, the city's roads were still heavily flooded, making it impossible for residents to move about.
