New Zealand snapped a three-game losing streak following a 35-23 win against reigning world champions South Africa in their Rugby Championship encounter at Ellis Park Stadium in Johannesburg on Saturday.

New Zealand raced into a 15-0 lead courtesy of tries from captain Sam Cane and Samisoni Taukei'aho and a conversion and penalty from Richie Mo'unga.

South Africa responded through a try by Lukhanyo Am and a conversion and penalty by Handre Pollard.

Pollard and Mo'unga traded penalties early in the second half, and Mo'unga added another three-pointer before Makazole Mapimpi scored the hosts' second try which Pollard converted.

Pollard put South Africa ahead for the first time in the game with a penalty in the 68th minute shortly after New Zealand were temporarily down to 14 men after Beauden Barrett was shown a yellow card.

The Springboks, however, failed to capitalize on their man advantage and David Havili and Scott Barrett added a try each both of which Mo'unga converted to seal the win.

Victory gives New Zealand their first win in this year's Rugby Championship and takes some pressure off head coach Ian Foster who has faced criticism from fans over recent performances and results.
