Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi on Sunday witnessed the swearing in of the country's new ministers after he reshuffled his cabinet.

The cabinet reshuffle affecting 13 ministries was approved by Parliament on Saturday.

It is the first major reshuffle since 2019, with the President pointing out that it was undertaken "to improve government performance in some important sectors, both internally and externally, which will contribute to protecting the interests of the state and its capabilities, and directly improve the services provided to the Egyptian citizen."

The cabinet changes saw the heads of the ministries of public enterprises, water resources and irrigation, trade and industry, and tourism, among others replaced.

Key portfolios including finance, foreign affairs, and supply however remained unchanged.

"I extend my thanks and appreciation to all ministers who have completed their mission, and I wish success to those assigned to replace them," el-Sisi said.
