At least two people were killed and four others feared trapped after a seven-storey building collapsed on Sunday in Lagos, Nigeria.

Authorities in the city say the building, located in Lekki area, was under construction when it caved in.

"Upon arrival at the scene of the incident, an uncompleted seven-storey building undergoing construction was found to have collapsed," local media Premium Times quotes the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, to say.

Building collapses are not uncommon in Lagos.

The city has recorded multiple such incidents in the past, with authorities often blaming contractors for using sub-standard materials.

On August 21, two people were killed after a building collapsed in the Bariga area of Lagos.

At least 44 people were also killed after another high-rise building collapsed in November, in one of the deadliest such incidents in the country's recent past.
