Nigerian sprinter Nzubechi Grace Nwokocha, who was part of the team that won gold in the 4x100m relay at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, has been provisionally suspended for the use of banned substances, the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) said.

The 21-year-old ran the anchor leg in the games last month to help the West African nation beat England and Jamaica.

The Nigerian team consisted of Favour Ofili, Rosemary Chukwuma and Tobi Amusan. They set a new African Record of 42.10s.

"The AIU has provisionally suspended Nigerian runner, Nzubechi Grace Nwokocha, for the Presence/Use of Prohibited Substances (Ostarine & amp; Ligandrol) (Article 2.1 and Article 2.2)," AIU said in a statement on Twitter.

A provisional suspension means an athlete is suspended temporarily from participating in any competition or activity in athletics prior to a final decision at a hearing conducted under the World Athletics Anti-Doping Rules or the Integrity Code of Conduct.

With the suspension of Nwokocha, Nigeria now risks losing the Commonwealth 4x100m Women's gold medal.
