South Africa’s Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan said on Tuesday the government will shuffle the Board of Directors at the national power utility, Eskom.

Local News24 outlet reports that Gordhan told the directors that the changes could be made "in the next few days".

Eskom has been on the spotlight for months due to long-running load shedding initiatives as the utility struggles with providing adequate electricity for the country.

The issues hit a peak last week when President Cyril Ramaphosa was forced to cancel a trip to New York to attend the 77th Session of the United Nations General Assembly as Eskom escalated load shedding to stage 6.

The South African cabinet resolved last week that the Eskom board should be strengthened.

It remains unclear if the government will replace the entire board or only make partial changes in its efforts to ensure efficiency in its operations.
