At least three people were killed and six others injured after a five-storey building that was still under construction collapsed in Kiambu, on the outskirts of the capital Nairobi.
According to reports by multiple local media outlets, the building in Kirigiti village crumbled early on Monday, falling on a nearby house and instantly killing a woman and two children.
Emergency operations are still underway at the scene of the incident as rescue service providers and civilians team up to search for possible survivors.
"Several people have already been pulled out of the rubble, and rushed to the hospital. Sadly, some are feared to have succumbed to their injuries," Kiambu County Governor Kimani Wamatangi said in a social media post.
“Through the combined efforts of the Kiambu County Fire and Disaster Management Department, Kenya Police, Kenya Defence Forces, Kenya Red Cross and volunteers, the search continues for those trapped under the debris.”
