Kenya Swimming Federation (KSF) stakeholders will have a meeting with world governing body FINA on October 6 as the country seeks to have its international ban from the sport lifted.
Francis Mutuku, secretary general of the National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOCK), said on Thursday this intervention is aimed at resolving the long-running crisis that has seen the KSF fail to hold its elections, with the exercise delayed yet again this week.
Mutuku noted that the meeting is geared towards knowing what the world swimming governing body requires for Kenya to get back to normalcy as far as swimming is concerned and to be in good standing with international standards of the sport.
"As it is, Kenyan swimmers have been gracing events but not under the Kenyan flag, and stakeholders would want this to change," Mutuku said in a press statement.
FINA banned Kenya indefinitely from all swimming activities in May after KSF served a two-year suspension for failing to conduct elections within three years.
Kenya is not permitted to participate in the FINA Congress and other FINA non-sporting events.
