Manchester City beat derby rivals Manchester United 6-3 on Sunday to keep the pressure on Arsenal in the Premier League title chase.

The Cityzens gave an emphatic display throughout the game at The Etihad, keeping their visitors on defense duties for majority of the game.

Phil Foden opened the scoring in the eighth minute as he thumped home an inviting Bernardo Silva cross.

The league's leading scorer Erling Haaland doubled his side's lead in the 34th minute before finding the back of the net three minutes later.

With a minute of the first half still to play, Foden got his second too to ensue City went into the break four goals to the good.

In the second half, United found themselves getting more chances to attack, and they took advantage in the 56th minute as Anthony curled home a perfectly weighted ball past Ederson.

City however, still hungry for more goals, responded with a third goal for Erling Haaland, his third consecutive home hat-trick of the season.

In the 72nd minute, Foden completed his own hat-trick as he remained composed in United's penalty area to slot past David De Gea.

United substitute Anthony Martial got on the score line in the 84th minute, before adding his side's third in stoppage time.

"It was really good [in the first half]. We scored four goals and could have scored more. After half-time it was more difficult. It was a great victory, a great game, everyone was happy in the stadium and we enjoy it against our rivals. It was a good afternoon for us," Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola said after the match.

He hailed the displays by Haaland and Foden and the impact they had on City's game.

On his part, United manager Erik ten Hag noted that hi side did not have the belief to match City on the field.

"It's quite simple, it's a lack of belief. When you don't believe on the pitch then you can't win games, that is unacceptable. We get undisciplined at following rules and you get hammered, that's happened today," said ten Hag.

City are currently ranked second in the standings, having garnered 20 points from 8 games. Table topping Arsenal lead the way with a point more from the same number of games.

United on the other hand sit in sixth place, with 12 points from 7 games.
