According to local media reports in Italy, multiple unions in the transport sector have called for 24-hour strike action across the country this Friday. The organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation (Eurocontrol) stated that air traffic controllers will kick off the strike at 00:01-23:59 Oct. 21.

Affected by this, many Italian airlines have begun to cancel flights on the 21st, of which ITA Airways will cancel more than 200 domestic and international flights on the same day. An estimated 250,000 travelers in the country will be affected.

The union said it was taking action after failing to make progress in talks with Italy's civil aviation regulator. In addition to airline employees, airport ground staff will also join the strike on the 21st.
