A notorious bandit leader and several other bandits terrorizing local people across three local government areas in Nigeria's northern state of Kaduna were killed in airstrikes by troops on Monday, a local official said.
The aerial assaults against the bandits were conducted in Birnin Gwari, Igabi and Chikun local government areas of Kaduna, hitting the camps of the gunmen and destroying them, Samuel Aruwan, the state's commissioner for internal security and home affairs, told reporters in the state capital Kaduna.
Aruwan identified the bandits' leader killed in the airstrike as "Alhaji Lawan", saying his camp was razed.
"The state government received the news of the aerial bombardments of the criminals with excitement," the official said, noting that it was in continuation of ongoing aerial patrols across Kaduna State by the government forces.
