South Africa has successfully applied for the extradition of corruption suspect Michael Lomas from the United Kingdom, the National Prosecution Authority (NPA) said Friday.
Lomas is implicated in a fraud case involving a 745 million rand (about 42 million U.S. dollars) tender which the power utility Eskom paid to Tubular Construction Projects.
"Lomas has seven days to apply for an appeal or the extradition stands," said Sindisiwe Seboka, national spokesperson of NPA's Investigating Directorate.
Andrea Johnson, the investigating director, hailed the two-year-long fight to get Lomas to stand trial in South Africa. "The legal process has been lengthy, and we are pleased with the judgment," he said.
Lomas is expected to join the other four accused and appear at the Palm Ridge Specialized Commercial Crimes Court on April 5, 2023.
