Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola says his time at the English club will not be complete if he does not win the coveted UEFA Champions League.

Guardiola, who last month extended his contract with City to 2025, has won nine major trophies, including four Premier League titles, as City manager.

However, season and again, his charges have come short of winning the European trophy, including their 2020/21 final loss to Chelsea.

"It's not the only one but I admit it's the trophy we want and my period here will not be complete if we don't win it," said Guardiola.

"I will do everything in the time we have together but I'd say the same before. It's the trophy we don't have and we'll try to do it. I have the feeling they'll get it sooner or later."

The Cityzens, semi-finalists last season, have already qualified for this season’s Round of 16 and are pitted against German side RB Leipzig.

Before taking over at Manchester City, Guardiola won the trophy on four occasions, putting him level with Brian Clough, Sir Alex Ferguson and Jose Mourinho as the most successful manager in the competition's history.

As domestic seasons prepare to resume after the FIFA World Cup break, Guardiola is confident his team will continue their push for the Champions league and other trophies available.

He told journalists his players have been returning to training gradually, with those who were at the World Cup looking sharp.

"I have the feeling those who were at the World Cup are in better condition than players who weren't because the players who didn't go lack the rhythm," he said.

Manchester City resume action on Thursday against Liverpool in the EFL Cup Round of 16, before taking on Leeds United in the Premier league on December 28.
