Iranian sports minister suffers brain hemorrhage in chopper crash: media

Iranian Sports Minister Hamid Sajjadi suffered a brain hemorrhage and is slightly unconscious after a helicopter crash on Thursday, official news agency IRNA reported Friday.

The crash, which took place in the southeastern city of Baft when the helicopter was landing, killed a senior advisor to Sajjadi.

Since Sajjadi's hemorrhage is not progressive, he does not need surgery, IRNA quoted Mohammad Saberi, the head of the emergency organization of the southeastern Iranian province of Kerman, as saying.

Director General of Sports and Youths Organization of Kerman Province Meysam Parizi, who was aboard the plane, is also unconscious as his broken ribs pierced his lungs, he added.

Three of the 18 people wounded in the crash have been released from the hospital and the rest are recovering, according to Sajjadi.

An investigation into the cause of the incident would be carried out by the Iranian Red Crescent Society, which operated the helicopter, the head of the Iranian Civil Aviation Organization's office for safety investigation Hassan Rezaeifar said.
