The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday announced Feb. 8 next year as an official date for general elections in the South Asian country.
The date has been finalized in a meeting between President Arif Alvi and an ECP delegation under the leadership of Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja on Thursday night, the ECP said in a statement.
Earlier, the chief election commissioner wrote an official letter to the president proposing Feb. 11 as the date for general elections of national and provincial assemblies in accordance with the instructions of the Supreme Court of Pakistan issued on Thursday.
However, February 8 was later agreed upon.
