Madagascar's parliamentary chief calls for suspension of presidential election

The head of Madagascar's lower house of parliament on Thursday called for the suspension of next week's presidential elections, after more than a month of regular opposition rallies.

Christine Razanamahasoa, who leads a mediation group to find a way out of the political crisis, said conditions to hold a "transparent" and "inclusive" vote on November 16 were not right and the "electoral process must be suspended".
