Chad's transitional PM resigns to pave way for new gov't

Saleh Kebzabo, Chad's transitional prime minister, announced the resignation of his government on Friday.

The resignation came shortly after Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno, the country's transitional president, promulgated a new constitution which was passed in a popular referendum on December 17.

"In accordance with republican practice and custom, following the promulgation of the constitution today, I submitted to the president of the transition my resignation as prime minister, as well as that of my government," Kebzabo said in a post on his social media handles.

Kebzabo's resignation paves the way for a new government.

The political and military situation in Chad has deteriorated since 2021 following the death of former President Idriss Deby Itno. Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno has since led a transitional military council to govern the country.
