China has always stood on the side of fairness and justice and is committed to working together with Arab and Islamic countries to realize a ceasefire and protect the civilians in the Gaza Strip, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Sunday in Egyptian capital Cairo.

Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks when asked about the situation in Gaza during a joint press conference following the meeting with his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry in Cairo.

Wang said China will make unremitting efforts for a comprehensive, just and lasting settlement of the Palestinian question at an early date.

He also proposed China's four points for resolving the issue: realizing an immediate ceasefire, ensuring access for humanitarian assistance, respecting the will and independent choice of the Palestinian people for the future of Gaza, and implementing the two-state solution.
