Chinese FM: China, Togo to further synergize development strategies

China stands ready to work with Togo to strengthen the docking of the two countries' development strategies and support Togo in realizing sustainable development, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Wednesday.

Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks when he had a meeting with Togolese President Faure Gnassingbe in Lome, the capital of Togo.

During the meeting, Gnassingbe asked Wang to convey his sincere greetings and best wishes to Chinese President Xi Jinping and spoke highly of Togo-China relations and practical cooperation. He said that under the framework of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), Togo and other African countries have seen great development in infrastructure construction, economic development, and domestic security, saying that all of these achievements could not have been made without China's long-term and selfless help.

Gnassingbe said that Togo appreciates China's impartiality in the international arena and its opposition of interfering African countries’ internal affairs, which have played indispensable role in the peaceful development of Africa.

As a beneficiary of Africa-China cooperation, Togo will always have faith in China and will continue to carry forward the tradition of friendship and deepen cooperation in all fields with China, said the president, highlighting the necessity to get China’s support and deepen cooperation with China confronting such a turbulent world.

For his part, Wang conveyed President Xi's cordial greetings, saying that the friendship between China and Togo, forged by leaders of the previous generation, has lasted for a long time and become a good example of South-South cooperation.

Wang noted that China believes that Africa countries will be able to overcome the difficulties and create new opportunities as long as they are united, independent, united and self-reliant, and find paths of development that suits their own national conditions.

Calling the 21st century a century of revitalization for developing countries, the senior Chinese diplomat said that China will always stand firmly with Africa, support Africa in accelerating its autonomous development, promote the quality and upgrading of China-Africa cooperation, and make more fruits of China-Africa cooperation accessible to Togo and African countries.

Wang also expressed China's wiliness to share development experience and opportunities with Africa, so as to realize China's and Africa's modernization together.
