Togolese Prime Minister Victoire Sidemeho Tomegah-Dogbe on Wednesday met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Lome, the capital of Togo.
Dogbe expressed gratitude to China for the selfless support it has provided in Togo's development process and affirmed Togo’s commitment to the one-China principle, as well as its support for China's national reunification.
She noted that Togo admires China's remarkable development achievements and hopes to learn from China's useful experience.
Dogbe affirmed Togo's openness to Chinese enterprises and investments, noting that the West African country is keen on strengthening cooperation with China in various fields such as poverty alleviation, agriculture, industrial parks, connectivity, digital economy, human resources training, and environmental protection.
The Prime Minister emphasized the important role of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) in accelerating Africa's development and nine programs proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping. She also expressed hopes to strengthen security and defense cooperation with China to combat terrorism.
On his part, Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, noted that over the past half-century, China and Togo have firmly supported each other on issues of core interests and major concerns. He said that political mutual trust between the two countries has continued to grow, and mutually beneficial cooperation has been steadily advancing.
Wang said that China will continue to support Togo in safeguarding its sovereignty, independence, national security and national dignity, and will strengthen all-round cooperation with the other parties to help Togo accelerate its industrialization process.
The Chinese Foreign Minister highlighted that the FOCAC has become an important platform for promoting Africa's development, a banner of China-Africa solidarity and cooperation, and an effective impetus for international cooperation with Africa.
Wang affirmed that China will persist in practicing the policy of “sincerity, real results, amity and good faith” proposed by President Xi, implementing nine programs in Africa, and providing assistance to African countries in exploring development paths that are in line with their own national conditions.
He further noted that China will insist on high-quality development and high-level opening up, and will share opportunities with African countries to accelerate their modernization.
