Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao Meets with WTO Chief

Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao met with Director-General of the World Trade Organization, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala on Sunday while attending the 13th Ministerial Conference of the WTO in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

During the meeting, Wang Wentao emphasized China’s commitment to the WTO, saying that China will actively participate in WTO reforms and enhance the WTO’s role in global economic governance.

He stressed that China is willing to work with all parties to promote the 13th Ministerial Conference of the WTO to achieve more practical results which include resuming the normal operation of the dispute settlement mechanism, formulating a work plan for agricultural negotiations, and responding to the food security demands of the least developed countries.

At the meeting, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala praised China for its support of the work of the WTO and the multilateral trading system.  She appreciated China’s willingness to consider issues from the perspective of all WTO members while safeguarding its own legitimate rights and interests. She also expressed her hope that China would play an even more significant role in ensuring the success of the 13th ministerial conference.
