Russia's Roscosmos approves preliminary design of orbital station

CGTN

Russia's state space corporation Roscosmos said on Tuesday it has approved the preliminary design of the Russian orbital station.

Developed by the Russian rocket and space corporation Energia, the orbital station will feature an open modular structure. The design is based on a node module with six docking ports to which other modules are connected.

The modules are replaceable, which can extend the service life of the station for decades with proper logistics, Roscosmos said in a statement.

The station's design will also allow it to offer an overview of the entire earth's surface, as compared to about 60 percent of the earth's surface that can be viewed by cosmonauts aboard the International Space Station, the company said.

The station is planned to be put into operation within the period from 2027 to 2032, it added.
