Nawaf Salam, president of the International Court of Justice, was appointed Monday by Lebanon's President Joseph Aoun as the country's new prime minister and was designated to form a new government, local TV channel Al Jadeed reported.
According to Al Jadeed, in consultations convened by President Aoun, Salam secured 84 parliamentary votes, while former Prime Minister Najib Mikati garnered nine votes. Meanwhile, 35 of the total 128 lawmakers did not name anyone to head the cabinet.
