Trump says 'very much on track' after phone call with Zelenskyy over partial ceasefire

U.S. President Donald Trump said he just ended a phone call with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Wednesday morning over a partial ceasefire and "We are very much on track".

The phone call came one day after Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed on Tuesday in their phone talks that the peace in Ukraine "will begin with an energy and infrastructure ceasefire".

"Much of the discussion was based on the call made yesterday with President Putin in order to align both Russia and Ukraine in terms of their requests and needs. We are very much on track," Trump said on social media.

Trump said the telephone call was "very good" and lasted approximately one hour.

Hours after the Trump-Putin phone call, Zelenskyy said that his country supports any proposals leading to a lasting and just peace, but his country's direct involvement in peace negotiations is needed.

"Without Ukraine's involvement, I believe reaching an agreement is futile," he said. "We need to understand what the conversation is about."

Ukraine and Russia exchanged aerial assaults overnight, multiple media outlets reported.
