The European Union (EU) agreed on Tuesday to lift its economic sanctions on Syria, following a meeting of the bloc's foreign ministers, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas announced on the social media platform X.
"Today, we took the decision to lift our economic sanctions on Syria," she wrote. "We want to help the Syrian people rebuild a new, inclusive and peaceful Syria."
The EU's decision comes after U.S. President Donald Trump announced last week that he would order the removal of U.S. sanctions on Syria.
