President Xi Jinping spoke by phone with U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday evening.

President Xi noted that China and the United States were allies fighting side by side during World War II. The Chinese people will never forget the valuable support provided by the United States and other anti-fascist allies.

Xi emphasized that the U.S. side should avoid unilateral trade restrictions that could undermine the results of multiple rounds of trade talks. China’s position on the TikTok issue is clear: the Chinese government respects the will of enterprises and supports them in conducting business negotiations based on market principles to reach solutions that comply with Chinese laws and regulations and balance interests. China hopes the U.S. will provide an open, fair, and non-discriminatory business environment for Chinese companies investing in the United States.

President Trump stated that U.S.-China relations are the most important bilateral relationship in the world. Cooperation between the two countries can accomplish many great things that contribute to global peace and stability. The U.S. hopes to maintain a long-term, sound, and great relationship with China. The U.S. is committed to promoting bilateral economic and trade cooperation, supporting consultations, and properly resolving the TikTok issue.
