Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi met Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Cairo on Saturday, where both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening strategic ties between Egypt and Russia.
According to the Egyptian presidency, Al-Sisi welcomed the continued expansion of bilateral relations, particularly in political, economic and trade cooperation.
The talks focused on advancing major joint projects, including the Russian industrial zone in the Suez Canal Economic Zone and the Dabaa nuclear power plant. Lavrov stated that Moscow remains committed to building on the agreements reached during Al-Sisi's visit to Russia in May to further expand bilateral cooperation.
The meeting also covered the Second Ministerial Conference of the Russia–Africa Partnership Forum, held the same day in Cairo, which both sides described as a key avenue for boosting partnerships and economic engagement with African countries.
In addition, the discussions addressed regional and international developments, including the conflicts in Gaza, Sudan and Libya. Both sides underscored the urgency of ending the war in Gaza, reinforcing the ceasefire and preventing further regional escalation, with Lavrov praising Egypt's role in promoting stability.
The Russia–Ukraine war was also discussed, with Al-Sisi reiterating Egypt's support for political and diplomatic solutions, the presidency said.
