Authorities in South Africa's Cape Winelands Municipality say a fire that broke out in the Wemmershoek area near Franschhoek on Wednesday remains active.

"Active firefighting operations were conducted along accessible fire lines, with backburning implemented where necessary. The Winelands Fire Protection Association deployed aerial resources and, with assistance from Stellenbosch Municipality, focused on structure protection at Mont Rochelle, Chamonix Wine Estate, and surrounding farms," officials said in a statement on Monday.

The municipality said high temperatures and windy conditions on Sunday caused several flare-ups in areas that had previously been contained, but these were quickly addressed.

No injuries, damage, or loss of property have been reported so far.

Meanwhile, authorities in the Overstrand Municipality say progress has been made in containing wildfires that prompted evacuations on Saturday.

Efforts by the Pearly Beach Fire Crew helped contain the left flank of the fire along the Groeneweide–Panorama border, with mop-up operations now continuing.

However, a fire in Stanford Village remained challenging, with renewed efforts focusing on inaccessible old vegetation where active fire lines were persisting.
