South Sudan's President Salva Kiir dismissed Interior Minister Angelina Teny and appointed Aleu Ayieny Aleu as her replacement, according to a Monday night announcement on state television.
Aleu, who previously served as Interior Minister between 2013 and 2015 and later as governor of Warrap state, returns to the post amid rising political tensions.
Teny, a senior opposition figure, is also the wife of detained First Vice President Riek Machar.
This change was part of a broader cabinet reshuffle that also saw the removal of other senior officials.
Teny has not been active in the ministry since March 2025, following Machar's house arrest. Most responsibilities have been handled by her deputy.
