South Sudan President Salva Kiir has fired central bank governor Yeni Samuel Costa and reappointed Johnny Ohisa Damian to head the bank, marking Ohisa's third term in the position since 2022.
The decision was announced in a presidential decree broadcast on state television on Friday evening.
No reason was provided for his dismissal.
Costa, who was appointed on November 12, 2025, served slightly more than two months, making his tenure the shortest of any central bank governor since South Sudan’s independence in 2011.
His time in office coincided with growing economic challenges, including a weakening currency and high inflation.
Ohisa previously served as governor but was dismissed on June 8, 2025. He first took on the role in 2022.
Before becoming central bank governor, Ohisa held senior positions at the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning, where he worked on fiscal policy, revenue administration, and relations with international financial institutions.
