Nigeria announces arrival of 100 US soldiers for capacity-building

Approximately 100 US military personnel have arrived in Nigeria to provide training support and capacity-building to the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN). This development was confirmed by the Director of Defense Information, Major-General Samaila Uba, who said the deployment followed consultations by a joint working group made up of Nigerian and US defense officials. 

The troops will train and advise local forces without participating in combat operations, with all activities conducted under the authority, direction, and control of the Nigerian government, in close coordination with the AFN, Uba said. 

Official media reports indicate that the cooperation will also provide Nigeria with access to specialized technical capabilities designed to enhance its ability to deter terrorist threats and strengthen the protection of vulnerable communities.

Uba emphasized that the objective of the partnership is to defeat terrorist organizations threatening Nigeria's sovereignty and national security. He assured Nigerians that the government would maintain transparency and provide timely updates on the ongoing military collaboration.
