Faces of Africa: Malaria Warriors... Swaleh Ibuana on the front line

Africa;Comoros

Comoros, a nation of three islands, has long battled one of Africa's deadliest diseases, malaria. Malaria once touched nearly every household in the country. But a bold national mission, strengthened by global partnerships, is changing that narrative. With local resilience and international cooperation, a new chapter is being written. On the frontlines are community health workers who refuse to give up. Among them is Swaleh Ibuana, a former police officer who has devoted his time to fighting malaria for his people. Using spray canisters as their weapons, Swaleh and other community health workers are slowly but surely healing their nation.
