The African Union Commission (AUC) Chairperson, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, has condemned a drone strike in Goma that killed civilians and damaged residential areas.
Drone strikes hit the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) city on Wednesday, killing at least three people, including a French aid worker.
In a statement, Youssouf said any attack that endangers civilians and humanitarian personnel violates international humanitarian law.
The commission urged all parties to exercise maximum restraint and avoid actions that could further escalate tensions.
It also called for an impartial investigation to clarify the circumstances of the strike and stressed the need to respect ongoing mediation and ceasefire efforts aimed at restoring stability in eastern DRC.
