Cote d'Ivoire on Wednesday commissioned its first weather radar.

The radar, launched by the state-owned Airport, Aeronautical and Meteorological Operations and Development Company (SODEXAM), will enhance the monitoring of hazardous weather and improve forecast accuracy, marking a key step in strengthening the country's climate risk management capacity.

This achievement represents a major step forward in modernizing the country's climate monitoring and forecasting system, said Abdul Sylla, SODEXAM's acting director general.

The radar is part of the project "Vigilance, Alerts, and Climate and Meteorological Services for Users", financed at $32 million.
