The 2026 Military Intelligence Chiefs' Conference commenced on Monday in Tripoli, bringing together senior military and security officials from Sahel and Mediterranean nations across the Arab and African regions.

Libya’s Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, officially launched the event and warned that terrorism is an escalating threat across the Sahel and the wider African region, driven by instability and security gaps.

In his statement, Dbeibeh highlighted the necessity of a collective approach to regional security, stressing that no single country can tackle these challenges alone. He emphasized the importance of stronger intelligence cooperation, faster information sharing, and building trust among nations to effectively address cross-border threats.

The conference discussions focus on coordinated responses to cyber threats, enhancing regional security, counter-terrorism efforts, and improving intelligence collaboration to combat smuggling and other transnational crimes.
