Maiduguri is the largest city in northeastern Nigeria and the capital of Borno State. However, in the history of counter-terrorism in Africa, it is known as the "birthplace" of the Nigerian terrorist organization Boko Haram.

A young woman of strong faith and courage, Kalthum Mohammad Rabiu, was moved by her community's struggles. She raised her voice at a peace rally, calling for an end to the group's violent activities.

Later, she gained their trust and began negotiating for the release of their prisoners. She has freed over 100 people. Guns pointed at her, the threat of being kidnapped herself, shadowy figures operating in the shadows, and criticism from local authorities have not deterred her. Kalthum continues to free her neighbors from captivity and engages in other activities that are building peace and prosperity in her community.
