Zimbabwe and Botswana on April 22 signed a series of agreements aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation across key sectors, following the fifth session of the Zimbabwe-Botswana Bi-National Commission (BNC) held in Harare.
The accords were signed under the leadership of Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa and visiting Botswana President Duma Boko.
The agreements span a wide range of areas, including defense, trade and investment promotion, immigration, and the development of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises. Further, cooperation frameworks were established in aeronautical search and rescue, civil aircraft accident investigations, and correctional services.
In a joint communique issued at the end of the event, both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to deepening mutually beneficial ties.
They also pledged to collaborate on the development of the Museum of African Liberation and to intensify efforts to combat livestock theft and other forms of cross-border crime.
The two countries highlighted ongoing investments in transport corridors and border infrastructure, emphasizing the need to improve the movement of people, goods, and services between their territories.
President Mnangagwa also expressed appreciation for Botswana's consistent stance calling for the removal of what Harare describes as illegal Western sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe.
In addition, both nations committed to advocating for greater global recognition of the sustainable use of wildlife resources, seeking to ensure that African perspectives are better reflected in international conservation policies.
