A high-level telephone conversation between Egypt and Pakistan underscored renewed diplomatic efforts to contain rising regional tensions and advance stalled negotiations between the United States and Iran.

On Friday, April 24, Badr Abdelatty, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptians Abroad, spoke with Ishaq Dar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, in a call focused on recent geopolitical developments and pathways to de-escalation in the region.

According to the discussion, both sides reviewed prospects for advancing the diplomatic track between Washington and Tehran, expressing cautious optimism ahead of a second round of talks. The ministers said progress in negotiations could help consolidate ceasefire arrangements, reduce escalation risks, and create conditions for a broader settlement to ongoing conflicts in the Middle East.

The conversation reflected growing concern among regional actors over the fragility of current tensions and the widening risks to regional stability. Both ministers emphasized that dialogue and negotiation remain the only viable route to resolving the crisis, rejecting military escalation as a solution.

Abdelatty highlighted the importance of safeguarding freedom of international navigation — a reference to the strategic waterways in the region that have increasingly been affected by geopolitical tensions. He also underscored the need to address the security concerns of regional states, particularly Gulf Arab countries, which remain deeply exposed to any escalation between Iran and the United States.

The call forms part of broader diplomatic consultations between Cairo and Islamabad as both countries seek to play a stabilizing role amid intensifying regional uncertainty. Officials on both sides stressed the importance of continued coordination to support ongoing diplomatic efforts, reduce tensions, and keep political dialogue on track.

As negotiations between the US and Iran remain delicate, the engagement signals a wider regional push to keep channels open, prevent further escalation, and reinforce the primacy of diplomacy at a time of heightened volatility.
