South Africa will send envoys across Africa and other parts of the world as it seeks to address concerns over recent reported incidents of violence against foreign nationals on the continent and strengthen cooperation on migration, President Cyril Ramaphosa said on Thursday.

Ramaphosa made the remarks during a joint press briefing with Kenyan President William Ruto following talks in Pretoria.

"There will be envoys, yes, there will be people that we will send around not only on the continent but also around the world," Ramaphosa said.

He said the initiative aims to promote dialogue on migration management and encourage greater international cooperation.

"What we seek to do is to get the issue of migration properly addressed ... we should get as many key role players, countries, to work together," he said.

The announcement comes amid growing concern among several African countries following reports of anti-immigrant protests and attacks targeting foreign nationals in South Africa.

Ramaphosa said migration was among the issues discussed during his meeting with Ruto and stressed that the South African government was taking steps to address tensions while upholding the rule of law.

"As South Africa, we are addressing this matter," he said. "And I explained that South Africans are not xenophobic. South Africans are Africans. They want to live with other Africans peacefully."

The South African president has repeatedly condemned violence and intimidation directed at foreign nationals, while also calling for stronger efforts to tackle undocumented migration through legal and institutional channels.
